Photo Workshops

I have a passion for landscape/nature photography and an even greater passion for teaching. I remember how it felt the first time I “got it right” and created an image that I could be proud of. Once that fire was lit, it never died. My workshops are open to photographers of any skill level and my goal is that participants gain experience, confidence, and a renewed passion for exploring the world around them. Basic requirements are a DSLR or Mirrorless camera with a “Manual” setting and a sturdy tripod. We will work on a variety of skills including composition, long exposure techniques, proper filter usage, and much more. Some individuals find they benefit greatly by simply shooting alongside other photographers and gleaning useful tips. Come along for a deep dive into the field of Landscape Photography or for a fun outing with peers who share the same passion as you.

The Fine Print

The workshop fee is inclusive of guidance to the various shooting locations, with assistance with setup, composition, lens focal length selection, exposure suggestions, etc, as each person may desire.  At all times your own creative instincts will be honored and encouraged. '

A $150 deposit fee is required at time of reservation in order to establish the reservation.  The balance of the workshop fee is due no less than 10 days prior to the workshop date. Non payment of the deposit fee will indicate a decision not to reserve a spot on the roster.  If a workshop is cancelled for some reason, or if the participant is unable to attend the workshop, deposit funds can be applied to a subsequent workshop, or may be refunded less a 20% administration fee.

Each participant will be responsible for their transportation to the gathering site, and throughout the workshop on locations.  We encourage carpooling.  Meals are not included.  Unless indicated otherwise in the workshop narrative above, we will have a block of rooms reserved at the gathering place, and encourage you to contact the lodging yourself as early as possible to reserve your accommodations.  These rooms, whether  you stay at that location or some other location of your choosing, is at the expense of the participant.

A waiver form will be sent to you at the time you make your reservation.  This is mandatory and will need to be returned to us prior to the start of the workshop.

Please be aware that the workshop is a limited attendance event.  Also, it is an event that will be held in whatever weather conditions occur, short of a full-blown hurricane or some other equally destructive natural event occurrence.  Unless you hear otherwise from us prior to the event, you should assume the event will be held as scheduled.

Gear to bring

Camera, whether DSLR or mirrorless, with your owners manual.  If you prefer to shoot with your iPhone, that is perfectly fine and you can disregard the additional notes on recommended gear. For our DSLR or mirrorless shooters, wide and ultra-wide lenses will be useful, as will normal and telephoto lenses.  Super teles are not normally used, with 200mm normally being sufficient.  Tripods are mandatory, and you may bring filters of choice.  Linear polarizing and one or more neutral density filters are very useful.

Other accessories should include headlamps and/or handy-sized flashlights, extra batteries for everything, battery charger for camera batteries, and gear to clean front lens elements.

Temperatures are expected to be moderate, but rain gear and wind gear is always useful.  Hiking boots/shoes are appropriate.  Most hikes will be short, with the most challenging conditions being the deep, soft sand in some of the dune areas.

A laptop with your choice of imaging processing software may be useful during breaks or in the evenings.
